New Year's Eve at Wenceslas square

Prague - New Year Eve at Wenceslas square
This is Wenceslas square 4 hours and 25 minutes before New Year. The two big screens showed what was going on the main stage. And all of that was also broadcast live on our biggest commercial television Nova.

Winter sale at Bata

You actually don't need winter shoes when you live in Prague. But you can still buy some. Why not when they're half-priced in Bata store :)

I prefer book - Levne knihy

I prefer book, Levne knihy, Prague
NO! I PREFER BOOK! - Levne knihy's ad facing one of their book stores at Wenceslas square. And this is a BIG ad. Levne knihy, translated to English Cheap books, is a book shop chain with, you guessed it, cheap books. They have their own line of classic literature and you can find some really good encyclopedia type of books here - often for a fragment of their original price. They have also a lot of old music CDs with classic, jazz, rock'n'roll and also some of the popstars of 80s and 90s whom most of the people wouldn't know today. They are usually from 50 to 150 Kc (that's roughly 2 to 5,50 Euro).
I'm saving the best for the last. They also have their own DVD line of classic films including such as from Francois Truffaut, Roman Polanski, Wim Wenders, Akira Kurosawa, Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini and films with Pierre Richard and Louis de Funès. Well, there are more. All of them for 99 Kc (about 3,70 Euro). These are the best Christmas gifts :)

By the way, what do you read now?
I'll start with mine's: Sue Townsend's The growing pains of Adrian Mole and Charles Bukowski's Hot Water Music.

November 17

Wenceslas square
November 17 is the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day in the Czech Republic. Which means that lot of people have a reason to make a gathering or a demonstration. The spot in the upper part of Wenceslas square is the usual place for it.

Mango ad in the water and on the Prague's house

Mango ad at Prague
I was eating my late afternoon quickie meal in the middle of Wenceslas square. In front of a tiny red car that was reflecting in the water. But I hadn't finished it and the old lady came and drove away. So I took a picture of this Mango ad that is on one of the old buildings at Wenceslas square.

Actually Prague's city hall decided to dramatically lower the number of those kind of ads. They don't want them to cover Prague houses. Usually they are used when the house is being reconstructed. To cover the scaffolding.

I read an interview with the head of Prague's institution that takes care - among others - of the renovation of Prague's statues and sculptures. He said his idea was to offer the place on the scaffolding to advertisers in exchange for financing the renovation. Unfortunately, he wasn't successful at his superiors. I think this is a smart idea as there is only a very limited budget for renovations.

Shopping weekend in Prague with Marianne

Shopping in Prague with Marianne
Marianne magazine issued a bunch of discount coupons for the top shops in Prague for this past weekend and you can see Prague's centre full of shopping girls and women with a red bag with Marianne logo. They have this stand in the upper part of Wenceslas square, too.

Industrial part of Prague right in the centre of Prague

Prague - industrial
You may not tell that this is less than 3 minutes away from the centre of Wenceslas square, the most known square in Prague. The building to the right from the chimney (not in the picture) is a bowling and a snooker place. We were there quite often during my high school years as we have our school right over street (in Panska street).

I'm just watching document about photographer Jan Parik on tv. He does a lot of interesting stuff but his best would be Kafka's Prague exhibition. With beautiful black and white photos of Prague - almost unchanged from the times Franc Kafka lived here.
Well, I like Kafka's novels. They are so nicely strange :) Unfortunately Franc Kafka is way too merchandised in Prague.

Speaking of what's on tv, before this document about Jan Parik was a short about Madrid. And when I hear Madrid I think Dsole and Madrid Daily Photo :)

This photo was taken with Canonet QL17 and Kodak Tri-X 400 (exposed at 800 ISO) and thus I'm adding it to my Canonet QL17 series :)
